Al's Good Food In Scotland Guide
Welcome, Guest. Please login or register.
This site has one simple goal in mind - bringing you good honest reviews of Scotland's best (and worst)
establishments for eating and drinking. Each restauraunt or take-away has been reviewed in person by the site's Author, Ali Ross.
Lots of details about each establishment are available, including the address, telephone numbers and Google map location for each review.

Although the site is a guide from the perspective of one person, I encourage you to sign up to the website and submit a review yourself; note that each review is moderated and quality checked before submission to the site. Perhaps you disagree, or agree strongly with one of my reviews, I encourage you to share your views on the site also.
To get started, simply type in the name of a restaurant in the search bar on the left, or choose a category from the types on the left.

Different. Not good or bad different, just different. If you are lucky enough to be bored with the traditional fare of A La Carte dining, or perhaps just British/Chinese/Italian/Indian/Thai dining, then Khublai Khan's is almost definitely for you. It does away with three course dinners, away with a menu as you know it, and, well, it's probably the only place in Scotland you can have Alligator or Kangaroo meat without getting a funny look. Khublai Khan's is mainly based on Mongolian cuisine, which has been adapted by two ex-pilots turned chefs.
So, the idea is, sit yourself at the table, get a drink, then look at the menu of what can only be described as 'bits and bobs'. There is ranges of spices, herbs, mixtures, meats, vegetables, noodles and rice that you can pick from, however, there are a number of popular combinations that work well, thus these are provided for you if you are lacking some inspiration.
If, like me, have decided to brave it and just go for the experience and make the dish up as you go along, then head up to the ingredients counter with your bowl and magnetic coin (more on this in a minute), pop as many ingredients in your bowl as you like and take it over to the chef on the other side of the room. In return for your magnetic token he will dump your bowls ingredients on a plate cooker and cook it for you. When it's cooked, it's brought to your table along with your token. Once you've finished with that dish, you go up and do it all over again as many times as you like.
It's a great idea and you can really make some very interesting dishes that are certainly worthy of enlisting on the menu, however be prepared to make some equally scary dishes if you have had a few mongolian beers too many!
The price is right, and they have special meal deals on to make it even cheaper. The drink is their main markup, so be aware that you will pay top dollar on drink there.
Khublai Khan's also have a restaurant in Glasgow if you are in the West of the country. A great experience. Four out of five.
